Is It a New or a Port Game?
According to its official reveal, there was much guesswork whether Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be a brand new installment in the series or a port of the Wii U entry.Nintendo cleared up any misunderstandings during a Q n A session at this year’s E3, confirming that the upcoming game is indeed a brand-new title built for Switch.
New Characters
Nintendo has revealed three new characters launching in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Ridley, Inkling, and Daisy. The first two are new additions to the series, and both boast their own play styles and unique move sets that draw from their previous franchises. Inkling can splatter rivals with ink and use a bunch of weapons, such as Splat Bombs and Roller, while Ridley can spread fire and hurt other combatants with his tail.
Daisy isn’t a new addition to the roster, but rather a clone of an existing character, in the vein of Dark Pit and Lucina. Her play style and move set are based on Princess Peach, although she boasts several characteristics to set her apart.Beyond those three unique fighters, Nintendo hasn’t revealed any other new character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Stages
Nintendo hasn’t revealed the full list of stages in a new game yet, but the company says it will be a massive list. Confirmed stages are Tortimer Island and Spirit Train from Super Smash Bros. Great Bay and Princess Peach’s Castle from Melee; Frigate Orphe on and New Pork City from Brawl; and Mario Galaxy from the game Super Smash Bros. At least two brand-new stages will be introduced in the new game as well: Splatoon’s Moray Towers and Great Plateau Tower. Every stage in the game will also have an Omega form and Battlefield.
Release Date
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches exclusively for Switch by Nintendo later this year, probably on December 7.
